The Long Route

There is a popular, trending cliché which has crept into everywhere, including our faith in Christ. The cliché is “There is no time”. We are in a dispensation of quick-quick syndrome. Without much effort and at the shortest possible time, people are desperate and desire to get things done at the snap of their fingers.

The Scriptures say, “When the king of Egypt let the people go, God did not take them by the road that goes up the coast to Philistia, although it was the shortest way. God thought, ‘I do not want the people to change their minds and return to Egypt when they see that they are going to fight’ Exodus 13:17” Good News Bible. The shortest route to your destination (Promised Land) may NOT always be the safest in fulfilling life purpose. At first, it may seem to have given you the desired result but it messes you up in the process.

God always wants to build faith, dependence, maturity, endurance and courage in us: God chose to lead the Israelites through the long route (the coast of Philistia) because He does not want them to turn back when faced with war. God is not being wicked to His children; rather, He wanted to display His Sovereignty through them to the Egyptians and the world at large. For God knew that the challenges ahead would create great fear in the hearts of the Israelites, which would make them change their minds to turn back into slavery, act silly and ridicule their maker. In the journey of destiny, many have turned and resolved to take the shorter route against God`s leading so as to fast-track the result. That you have a very good business proposal, juicy ideas, formidable plans, wonderful strategies, excellent managerial skills, spiritually sound and trophies, etc., is not a shield from being faced and attacked by whatever forces are combating you, but God is!

There are battles to fight: As a matter of fact, you will still have to fight before you get to the Promised Land. Success only comes by having a relationship with God through constant fellowship and following His leading.

Don’t Go back to Egypt: Several people have changed their minds and returned to Egypt on the account of compromise – integrity becomes soiled so as to have the needed finance, shady deals become a norm to get multiple investments, faith becomes eroded as a result of desperation in respect to life pursuit.

Own up to God, He is taking you on a longer route so as to build you up in faith, cater for your inadequacy, stretch you to gain more capacity and develop in you a reliance on His power and grace. There is joy and fulfilment when you prayerfully and patiently allow God to take you through the processes involved in reaching your destination (Promised Land). Be grateful instead of murmuring. The LORD is good!

I pray your heart will remain sane, steadfast and patient with love, truth an faith in Christ to allow God to do His will in your life in Jesus name.

  1. Precious Father, help me not to compromise or see Egypt as option because of momentary relief or benefit (Amen). I receive greater capacity for manifestation of the miraculous.
